Angelina, you've got such a way with me, Why is it we never agree? You're like a fire, frozen crystalline, And I would melt your ice shell, and heat your cold, cold light Angelina, you know it once occurred to me, I thought I knew just why we disagreed: You wanted distance, a little time to think, I was direct, deliberate, determined not to shrink Like a moth into a flame, I fly to you, Lady Angelina Lost in this moment, I can really feel, really see My sense of time is gone, my self is underneath I know that we belong, you and me, fires burning free Angelina, now it seems so clear to me, You and I may never agree But it makes no difference, just what you're signaling, 'Cause I can see your beacon blazing in the night And like a moth into a flame, I fly to you, Lady Angelina Angelina, it's been such a long time since I've seen ya' Long ago and far away, fancy meeting you today, you look so good Angelina, dance with me again at the old cantina And give some thought to yesterday. Ever since you went away I thought I knew, but I never understood Angelina ages gracefully, She has her children near, has her connections Angelina dances sensually, I see the flame appear, but I just won't go in that direction |
| I wanted to write three songs, a suite, about the singer's infatuation for Angelina. The first part of the song, the ballad, was written years ago. In fact "Angelina", part 1, was the second song I ever completed. The other two parts were only fragments which I had hoped to turn into complete songs. During this recording project, I decided to give up writing more of the other two songs, and to merge the fragments into the finished ballad, creating an odd form, in three different tempos, probably the only ballad-bossanova-norteno-bolero ever attempted. Recording this one was most interesting, because the tempo changes required some creative arranging and flogging the band. The first transition works pretty well, as Danny Thurmer brings in the bossa feel with just guitar. The second transition, slowing down for the norteno part-well, be very glad for ProTools. |
